About
Joshua Boyt
Founder and Chief Resonator, Tuning Fork Consulting.
I've spent twenty-five years on four different sides of the same business, and every one of them taught me something the others couldn't see.
Ten years at Dillanos Coffee Roasters in sales and marketing. Then Director of Sales and Marketing at Victrola Coffee Roasters in Seattle. Along the way I founded Metronome Coffee in Tacoma and ran it as a café and a neighborhood fixture — built out of a simple idea about the rhythm of daily life. It proved that heart-first branding works in a real room with real customers, not just in a pitch deck.
Then I crossed to the manufacturing side as Global Marketing Director for Middleby Coffee Solutions Group, working on the Synesso, Concordia, and Terry H2O brands. That's where I saw the gap this whole business is built around.
From the manufacturing seat you watch an operator buy a beautiful machine and then get left to figure out product, recipes, water, training, and service entirely on their own. When that goes badly, everyone loses — the operator has a program that underperforms, and the manufacturer takes the blame for a machine that was never the problem.
Nobody was building the team around the equipment. That's what Tuning Fork does now: assemble the partners across every part of the supply chain so an operator gets a complete, working beverage program — and so every partner in it is stronger than they'd be standing alone.
What I won't compromise on is brand authenticity. I've walked away from good jobs over it more than once and I'd make the same call again. If growth costs a brand the trust it was built on, that isn't growth — it's just spending down something that took years to earn.
Background
On the name
A tuning fork doesn't make the music. It gives everything else in the room something true to tune to.
That's the whole job. A beverage program has a lot of moving parts and a lot of people playing their own note. The work is finding the pitch the business is actually meant to be playing — then getting the equipment, the product, the training, the service, and the people in tune with it.
